To convert the number we multiply 1 by 100.

Put simply, to change 1 to % we move the “.” two places to the right.

Then, we append the percent sign (%).

1 as a percent = 100%

To calculate 1 as a % of certain number x we divide 1 by x, and multiply the result by 100.

For example, 1 as a % of 10 = (1 / 10) x 100% = 10%.

Particularly in the UK, the abbreviations pc, pct., and pct are also used sometimes, e.g. 100pc
These days, the old forms 100 per centum and per cent followed by a period, 100 per cent., are hardly seen anymore and can be considered obsolete
There is no difference in meaning between the two-word per cent and percent
